Troubleshooting

Why Won't My Garage Door Open?

A garage door that won't open usually comes down to one of a handful of causes: a dead remote or transmitter battery, a broken torsion or extension spring, a motor that has lost power or timing, an obstruction in the track, or a control board fault. Trying to force the door manually can make some of these worse, particularly a broken spring.

Start by checking whether the remote's battery is flat and whether the motor's plug is still powered. If the door still won't respond, or you notice a loud bang followed by the door not moving at all (a classic sign of a snapped spring), stop trying to operate it and call us for a diagnosis.

Frequently Asked Questions

This is almost always a broken spring. Stop trying to operate the door and call us - operating it further can cause additional damage.

This can indicate a failed capacitor, a jammed mechanism, or a spring that has lost tension, all preventing the motor from lifting the door.

Often yes, but it can also be a receiver fault. We test both to confirm before recommending a fix.
